Why should pencils be plain? In this activity, you’ll use paper, thread, and a little creativity to make bright and cheerful pencil toppers. From butterflies to flowers and bugs, these fun toppers will make writing and drawing even more exciting.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Colourful felt sheets
  • Colour thread
  • Plastic thread
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Decorative beads
  • Black sketchpen
  • Plain white card paper

DO:

1. (A) Draw two butterfly and small droplet like shapes on two different colour felt. Cut out and paste the shapes together to make a butterfly.

(B) Make 3 small tubes by rolling the white card paper around the pencil.

2. (A) Cut 2 big circles, 4 antennas and 12 mini circles from the white paper and colour them black using sketchpen. Cut 4 triangles from red felt, and 4 small white circles (for eyes). 

(B)Glue all the pieces together to make two ladybugs. 

3. (A) Take the coloured thread and roll it around the glue bottle.

(B) Take it off the bottle and tie it with another small thread as shown and cut open to make a flower and decorate. 

(C) Take the plastic thread and insert beads of your choice into it and tie it together.

Your fun pencil toppers are ready to shine! Slide them onto your pencils and show them off at school. Try making more designs and mix colours to create your own pencil-topper collection. Keep crafting and keep creating!

4. Take the pencils and insert them into the small paper tube. Stick the butterflies and ladybugs to either sides of the paper tube. Also paste the flower and the beads thread to the paper tube.
