Create With Champak

For over fifty years, Champak has lived in school bags, beside pillows, and in the shared laughter of children reading together. Our stories are remembered not just because they were fun, but because they made children think, feel safe, and feel understood.

We publish content that sparks imagination, intelligence, empathy, and joy—from stories and articles to crafts, puzzles, science experiments, recipes, illustrations, and fresh ideas that help children understand themselves and the world around them.

Not sure what to write or create yet?

Fiction

Children love stories that feel alive and close to their world. At Champak, we welcome modern short stories that are playful, humorous, adventurous, and full of surprises. Stories can be about mysteries, travel, clever problem-solving, school life, friendships, or everyday adventures that children recognise and enjoy.

We also enjoy light-hearted, imagination-driven stories about science fiction, artificial intelligence, aliens, futuristic ideas, and fantasy—stories that spark curiosity without fear. What matters most is that the storytelling feels fresh, warm, and respectful of a child’s intelligence.

Stories should be between 800 and 1000 words, written in clear, grammatically correct, age-appropriate language with short sentences that are easy to read and understand.

Non-Fiction

Children are naturally curious, and they love discovering how the world works. We welcome non-fiction articles that answer questions, explain ideas, and explore topics like animals, nature, science, technology, people, places, habits, and everyday life.

Good non-fiction for children should feel friendly and conversational, not like a textbook. It should invite children to think, wonder, and ask more questions on their own.

Illustration plays a vital role in children’s imagination.

Illustrations should feel modern and relatable, using dynamic compositions and playful details that children enjoy discovering. Since Champak carries multiple stories in each issue, we welcome a wide range of illustration styles and themes.

Illustrations must be submitted as high-resolution digital files in CMYK format (300 dpi), suitable for print and web use, with organised layers.

 How to Share Your Ideas

If you would like to contribute, please send us a short concept note that includes one sample craft, experiment, or recipe. Crafts should include a list of easily available materials, clear child-friendly steps, and a final image of the completed craft. Science experiments should include step-by-step instructions, supporting images, a simple explanation of the science involved, and examples of where children can see this science in daily life. Recipes should include a clear list of ingredients, simple steps, and a fun final image.

Above all, think like a child. If it excites you, it will excite them.

Simple Science
Experiments

We are always looking for simple, safe science experiments that children can try at home using everyday materials. These experiments should be fun, easy to follow, and designed to explain how the world works in a way children can see, touch, and understand. The best experiments spark curiosity and help children notice science in their daily lives.

Recipes for Young Children
(Ages 2–6)

We invite no-cook, assembly-based recipes created especially for young children. These recipes should use simple household ingredients and involve safe, hands-on activities like mixing, arranging, layering, and assembling. Colourful, playful, and easy recipes work best and turn everyday moments into joyful learning experiences.

Crafts

We welcome creative craft ideas made with simple household materials that children can do with minimal adult help. We especially enjoy crafts connected to festivals, special days, or things that excite children in their everyday lives. Crafts should be safe, engaging, and satisfying to complete.
