How It Began

When Champak first launched in 1969, children’s stories in India often revolved around miracles, superhuman heroes, or frightening villains. Champak chose a different path.

We believed that children connect most deeply with stories that feel real. So we created characters—mostly animals—who think, feel, and behave like them. They aren’t perfect. They make mistakes. They learn, grow, and try again. Just like children do.

We chose animal characters because they help stories travel beyond borders. A rabbit, a bear, or a monkey can belong anywhere in the world. In Champakvan, our story forest, no one is an enemy by birth. Even characters who behave badly are given the chance to change. We believe everyone deserves a second chance.

This belief has guided Champak for over five decades—and it still does today.
